| How do I replace the ejection port cover on a Stag 3? Methinks I mangled mine. |
Much easier. Just remove the small c-clip that is keeping the pin from sliding out the rear. It is very small, so be very, very careful with it. Once its removed, just slowly pull the pin to the rear. No need to remove the barrel. |
+1 We have the port door kits in stock if you need a new one. |
It's no problem. Put the door in place with the spring in it's proper location. Start the pin in from the back. With the pin about 1/3 of the way through the spring, stop and with a very small pair of needle nose pliers turn the spring into the preload position and finish pushing the pin through. Once the pin is through, use the needle nose pliers to start the little clip onto the pin in the little groove. You can only start it with the pliers, you'll have to push it the rest of the way completely on with your fingernail or some other tool. It is very easy to have that little clip fly away, so be smart about where you do it. They can be lost in carpet very quickly. |
| What I've done in the past is insert the pin through either the front or back (depending on if the barrel is in place) of the cover so it is held in place along with half of the spring. I then take a credit card and push up on the portion of the spring that will need to be preloaded. Once the spring is in the proper position push the pin all the way through and you're done! |

Update: I got the new door in and replaced it. Now it closes with authority. Preloading the spring was relatively easy. However, I did a number on that c-clip despite the warnings. Is that c-clip a "special" part or can I get one from a hardware store? If so, what size/type/whatever do I need? I mangled it trying to get it off. I tried wedging it off with a screwdriver and that didn't work. I ended up using needlenose pliers to pull it open and then slide it off. The clip is pretty soft metal and the pliers chewed it up a bit. |

Probably should consider those clips expendable items that will get trashed in removal; though micro-pliers may prevent such. PK carries individual parts: PK Upper Small Parts |
