Armalite sells cosmetic blem upper receivers for $85. Has anyone used one of these? How bad are the blems?

FWIW LAR also sells blemished uppers for ~ $50.  I've thought about picking up one to try out for my first upper build.

I bought one for an AR10, and I cannot understand why it would be considered a second.  Great looking item.  I think if it were so out of spec to be unusable it would go to the scrap pile.

I've had good luck with the LAR uppers. They came to about 60 each with shipping, which is about 25 cheaper than I've seen new receivers. Don't forget about the cost of the port door and forward assist. These are around $20 total.

I have one of the ARmalite's and it's obviously a blemish.  There is about a 1/2" by 1" spot on the left side of the upper receiver that's not the same level and smoothness as the rest of the receiver.

It's mechanically sound, and works great, it just looks bad on the outside.

But nothing wrong with it for shooting... and that's what I use my guns for...
