I just finished my first build (pic to come soon) and am ready to start my second. I am looking to build a "sniper style" AR. Not sure if I want to do 6.8 or .223. Leaning towards 6.8. This will be mostly for plinking but possibly for hunting. I would like to shoot 300-500 m. What are your suggestions for a build keeping in mind my $2000 budget.

I would a scope included in this price. Can I do it?

what kinda hunting?

you might be able to include a scope, depending on what kinda scope you are looking for (or at least soem reasonable specs)--leupy, NF, Swavarski, zeiss, etc are about tops; bushnell, SS, and some nikons are good for the price

as to caliber, well, if you going for bigger game, i might opt for the 6.8, 6.5, or .380 AR10...

The J&T catalog is sweet. There Marksman kit is just about what I was looking to build. Is J&T a good quality company?

If you already have an AR lower and just want a 6.8 upper, that's the way to go first, then latter BRD will make you get a lower for the "extra upper"... that's what the voices in my head are telling me about my "extra upper"

Fulton Lower $390
DPMS TAC-20 Upper $900
A2 Stock $60
.308 LPK $80
Tasco Varmiter Mil-Dot Glass $80 - don't laugh, great budget scope
Armalite one piece Scope base $90
Matech rear $60
J&T gas block $27

Undetermined front sight?

+ mags + shipping

This is my next build, bit under $2k

Who sells Fulton lowers to California? I e-mailed Fulton in the past and they said they don't sell to Cali.

Noone.  Fulton is just the assembler.  They use DPMS stuff.  Atleast that's what I've heard on here.  Check out the Rock River Arms Predator Persuit upper.  It's like that Marksman you said you liked, except it doesn't have a flash hider or railed tube.  I don't see the benefit of either for what you're looking for though.

Here's the setup I'd recommend.

RRA predator persuit upper, Essential Arms stripped lower reciever, RRA lower parts kit with NM trigger, Magpul PRS stock, MIAD grip.

That get's you at around $1200.  Leaving you plenty of money for a decent optic setup of your choice.  If you can stand the extra weight look into the 20" or 24" RRA Varmint uppet.

I went back home to Minnesota, were CASH AND CARRY with a NCIS check of course, will get you anything with a current Handgun Permit, I'm Active Duty Non-Resident of CA, no plans to stay here, but I've bought all OLL just in case.
