will any anti-seize work or should i look for somthing specific, for assembly of upper and barrel?

i know this is a dupe but i cant find the tread on this topic...

Most any lubricant should work but I would suggest going with some quality stuff as you don't want something like moisture causing your build to deteriorate faster than you would like it to.

If the antiseize is that silver or copper colored goop, don't use it.

You want a molydisulfide grease.  This is, hang on... ordinary wheel bearing grease.

You don't want the silver stuff (Neverseize or equivilant) because you don't want the grittiness of the particles in the threads of the barrel nut.  The nut will not make up smoothly.

Antiseize is not applied like you do to for water pump bolts, places where there is corrosion likely.  That is not the problem with the AR-15/M16 barrel nut.  If it was assembled with greaase it is not going to "freeze up".  The purpose of a good antiseize grease is so that you can get good alignment without having to force and jerk the wrench.  Moly grease does this.

If you think I am full crap, do this, put some Neverseize on a bolt, and thread on the nut.  Can you feel the gritty stuff in the grease?  Now clean all that stuff off and put on clean moly grease.  Feel the difference?  Which do you think you could torque up more smoothly.

As I said, corrosion of steel nut and bolt is not the problem with the AR-15, so you don't need Neverseize.  Besides, the metal particles in the Neverseize are driven into the soft aluminum threads and damage them.  Neverseize is better for steel on steel, but the barrel nut and aluminum threads of the AR-15 receiver is not the place to use it.

it will work, as will grease or a molly grease.

What do you use to coat the threads of sparkplugs going into an Al head?

I'd use molly instead

For spark plugs i use the oil that I would have most likely just put into the engine.
