I tried searching and could not find the answer I am looking for. Maybe it's such an easy answer most people don't ask, who knows. I have a 16" barrel and would like to know how to install/index the muzzle brake correctly. I have the crush washer and the A2 break. I just need to know what all I need to do to correctly get it on there securely and correctly. Is loc-tight recommended to keep it from backing out and/or what special tools may I need for this project? Hope I didn't waste anyones time with this question. Thanks |

Don't use locktite. Put the crush washer on and try to index the A2 with the closed portion at the south position of the barrel. If it is too hard to turn the A2 to try and index it correctly, take it off and put the crush washer on a hard surface and tap it with a hammer to smush it a little bit. Try indexing it again. If you still can't get it repeat with the hammer until it does index correctly with the proper amount of torque. 15-20ft/lbs. |
Because if you have to CRUSH it more than about 1/3 of a turn, the CRUSHING puts a hell of a strain on the barrel, and if you've got the thing secured at the upper reciever (which I do not recommend), the extreme CRUSHING can throw the indexing of the barrel off enough to require you to need extreme windage adjustment when sighting in. Me? I use peel washers; just like the target shooters who do not want to risk accuracy by CRUSHING. |
