I somehow I have scratched my new CMT upper, and after looking at it, the coating seems really thin. Has anyone else noticed this? It is the small white spot on the shell deflector.
I'll strip it and recoat it with socom black. Should I bead blast it (on the outside) before I coat it?

That spot is going to get beat up anyways, Id just leave it as is. Whenever I scratch my guns I always just have to tell myself its a tool, tools get beat up. No need to paint it over IMO. Looks fine the way it is. Thats my .02, but to each their own.

The paint will look 10 times worse than that in a year. That is a SHELL DEFLECTOR man, it has a brass casing propelled at it every time you shoot, it will get scratched no matter what.

the coating is not thick, it is normal.

My CMT upper was fine. If you do refinish it and try to sand it to rough it up you will see that it is really tough and nearly impossible to sand off, except on the edges.

I'll just let it go. It got scratched somehow, before I ever shot it. (I think it was my FAL in the safe, it's getting crowded in there.) If I do ever refinish one, I'd likely strip it, and media blast it in my cabinet before I coat it.
