I need a lower parts kit for my CMMG lower receiver.  Midway has DPMS parts kits on sale.  I was reading the reviews which are mostly positive.  Two reviewers indicate that the DPMS hammer does not have a "notch" on it.  One reviewer said: "A huge advantage of this set is that the hammer does not have the "notch" on its face, making it more reliable with exposed-firing pin bolt carriers."  Another reviewer said: "The hammer in this kit is not mil-spec and hangs up on the firing pin in the carrier. It does not have the notch cut at the top front of the hammer to prevent catching on the firing pin. Compare a pic of the DPMS hammer to another/better brand and see for yourself. The rest of the kit was fine, but I hadn't planned on 30 minutes of grinder work to reprofile the hammer."

My CMMG upper half will have a full auto bolt carrier.  So what's the story with the DPMS hammer?  Will it work with my setup?

Yes, it will work. I've not experienced any problems with any item from my DPMS parts kits.

The second review is confusing. The notch definitely catches on my firing pin in a "hammer follow" situation in guns where the pin isn't shrouded.  I don't think the DPMS hammer would do this.

Put your grinder away. The DPMS hammer will work jusr fine. The notch, and the cutaway under the firing pin were Colt's politically correct way of trying to keep people from converting the AR15s to full auto back in the 1960s. and the rest of the industry slavishly followed suit.

Cooler heads have finally prevailed, 40 years later, and this BS os being abandoned by the industry---including Colt.  The unnotched hammer will work just fine.
