| I want to swap out the standard trigger guard for a magpul. I understand how to get the front "spring/pin" out. Whats the easiest way to remove the back roll pin? Do I just figure a way to support the ears and punch it out with small punch and hammer? Are these directional, like do the only go in and out one way? Thanks |
To me that does not sound like it would give very good support on the ears. I would think there would be a lot of give on a bed. Have you ever broke one off using that method? Not that I'll be changing my method anytime soon, or ever. OP: Like most everyone else I just use a block of wood with a hole drilled in it. |
Very sound advise. |
Support the off side ear. Others use a block of wood, I use another punch. ![]() I have a set of Sears Craftsman punches. They are hex shaped in the upper portion rather than round. I have found that one of them is just the right sized hex to fit between the bench and the ear. Lay the receiver on the punch, and use the 1/16" punch to knock out the pin. These are roll pins. You can push them out from either side, they are not directional. |
| Success!!!! Thanks to all the replies. I taped up the down side of the lower with electrical tape at all the contact points. I drilled several holes in a 1x4 piece of pine. I found the one that slid directly under the ears.Proceeded to give a few firm taps with a punch and the roll pin slid into the recessed hole like butter. The new roll pin didnt seem to want to go in. I wimped out and put the old roll pin back in. A few firm taps and it was back in. Thanks again!! |
Yep. I never screwed up a lower installing the trigger guard roll pin. But I once busted a trigger guard ear off trying to remove one. One of the dumber things i have ever done for sure. Someday i'll get around to trying to "fix" it. I dont think JB weld will hold. So i may just used the magpull full grip with attached trigger guard. |

Shameless plug for my custom trigger guards I'm working on a set screw version and also should have a small supply of MagPul guards. ![]() ![]() |
