Did a couple of searches and got bupkis, so sorry if it's a dupe. Wanna add a folding front BUIS to my M4Gery and need to pull the FSB. I'm guessing the easiest way is to grind one end of the pins, punch 'em out, wrap tape around the 204 cut, slide the muzzle end of the FSB over the cut, dremmel it, slide it up and do the back, clamp on the block. Sound about right? |

Is your FH permed on?? If it is not, then clamp the barrel and remove the FH. The pins on the FSB should be taper pins, and do NOT require any grinding. Just drive out from the small side toward the big side (support the fsb best you can, cause you are gonna have to hit 'em pretty good). With the FH removed, it will slide off the barrel. If your FH is permed, then cutting works. |

A little clp or remoil on the barrel will help prevent scratches from the FSB on the way off and the new one on the way on. They take a good whack to start but then come out really easy. Pinned muzzle device and you will need to grind off the old and go with a two piece new one. Joe |

| I've seen pins with heads on both sides, you may have to grind those. They are usually pinned in from left to right, so you'll want to grind the right side if that's the case. They can still be a bitch to get out, though. There have been times I've had to use an arbor press to press out the pins. |

You never "have" to grind the FSB pins. Pins are straight, or taper. If taper, you simply knock them out correctly - hitting on the smaller end. There arent any pins with "heads on both sides" those are most commonly just ones that were mushroomed. Tap them out. Some are harder than others. This is documented in the tacked threads at the top. No - you cant put tape on the barrel and still get your FSB off. |
Mushroomed, headed, whatever. Makes it easier if you grind them sometimes. |
Yes, you can. I said I was going to put the tape around the narrow portion of the barrel (the M204 cut) to protect it during the cutting process, cut the base and remove it, not slide it off over tape wrapped around the .750" dia portion of the barrel (and a FH, BTW). |
Gotchya. I re-read your OP and now I understand. I suppose thats the easiest way if you are not able to remove the muzzle device. I'd use some kind of heavy tape.... slips will be ugly. |

Seems like we have alot of people doing some stupid stuff when removing FSB. 1. Does your FSB have taper or straight pins? Look at the pins, one side is obviously bigger than the other if it is a taper pin. Unless you have an LMT, you most likely have Taper pins. 2. Hit the pin with a punch and a BFH. Best way to do this is with the FSB supported on a workbench. Hit it hard until it pops out the other side. 3. Grease the shit out of the barrel, slide the FSB off. How hard is that. |
That part is REALLY hard if your FH is PERMED on, as the OP's is. |
Pretty Goddamned hard with the FH still attached. Thanks for calling me stupid. Reading the whole thread: how hard is that? |
