What is the best way to get my flash suppressor to fit right. One peel washer is too big and some of the other ones are too small. What is the best way to get it to line up? Can I file the over-sized washer down or is there a better way? Thanks

a peel washer is made by many layers....with a lighter you should be able to remove as mush layers you need to line the FH up

What is the procedure for removing the layers?

A flame from a lighter or match softens the glue that holds them together.  Usually I just use a box cutter blade to get a layer loose.

LMAO this is kind of a funny thread :D The point of the peel washer is to start out too big so that you can slowly peel it down. Use a lighter, it is much more practical than a torch or matches. Heat it up for 2-4 seconds. Use a razor to seperate the layer. Once its heated you should be able to see the layers if you cant already. If you get a real nice peel washer one edge will delaminate each time you heat it and it peels real easy. Some are a royal pain in the ass. Last build I buggered three washers and finally just sent the thing to ADCO where it was to be pinned on anyway and had steve do it. He did a great job :D

+1 to mr ferns and mr Hoplophile on getting the peels to work

i prefer crush washers myself--no sharp peeling metals to re-cut myself and it crushes down perfectly everytime

Actually there is even a trick to crush washers. I have found that sometimes with crush washers it takes much more torque then I am comfortable applying to the end of the barrel to get the FH properly timed. When I find myself in that situation, I take the crush washer and "pre-crush" it in a vice or you can just pound it a little with a hammer. That way you can time the FH without applying excessive torque

Are the washers that come from Brownells the peel washers? I was looking at them and it doesn't look like they seperate at all. I was trying to file them down and was not making much head way so I thought I would ask the experts. Thanks

Have you tried heating one up yet? Most of the time it pretty hard-to-impossible to see the layers until it's heated up.

I find it best to clamp it in a vise so that I can safely work on it with the razor.
