I'm slowly but surely building an M4gery and need recommendations for a mil-spec carry handle. I know to stay away from the Chinese Leapers but I don't know where to head . . . THANKS IN ADVANCE |
I just bought a rock river arms carry handle from Steve @ ADCO. Watch the EE closely you'll find them there for a good price but you have to jump on it because they don't last long at those prices. |
|
I already bought a few of these so I will post it. Will not be any for long now I guess. www.e-gunparts.com/DisplayAd.asp?chrProductSKU=982490&chrSuperSKU=&MC=YJ |
How's the quality? I'm wonderin' why Numrich has them for that price unless they're Stag's rejects. |
| I was on the fence about those for a while because Numrich did not list them as Stag at first in the description. For a while I thought they were UTG or some other cheap crap, but after they listed them as Stag I picked one up. What I got in the mail looks like my Friends carry handle that came with his Stag upper so I am Happy. Still have to take it to the range to see if it holds Zero. |
What does the forge mark look like and what does it mean? Good, bad? I went ahead and ordered one of these. The invoice said "Carry Handle, Flat Top - COLT AR15-A2 FLAT TOP." Got here in less than a week. The mark near the rear sight looks as if it is best described as a trapezoid of some sort. The handle doesn't look "pristine" like my lower receiver did when I got it. Don't get me wrong, it's not all scratched up but, I guess it looks like it has been handled a lot, or been on a shelf for a long time or something. If it is as they say it is on the website (Manufactured by Stag Arms. Mil-Spec height carry handle for flat top AR15A2, M16A4, M4 and M4A1 rifles and carbines. Machined from a 7075 T6 forging with a hard coat anodized finish, staked thumb screws, A2 aperture and 6/3 windage drum. Model: COLT AR15-A2 FLAT TOP) then I'm not complaining given what I paid for it. If they are trying to slip a Chinese handle on me then I guess it's going back. What do you think? |
I have all three COLT, RRA, UTG and see no real difference. At this point no longer care which one I use. My shooting accuracy doesn't change from one handle to the other. |
If it has a forge mark, i.e., cardinal or key hole, that means it's a carry handle made for real AR's & it's not Leapers or other chicom make. |
I looked up some carry handles last night from the EE and one was sold from a guy that said it was a Stag and I looked at the pics close up and it had the same forge mark. I'm happy. I wiped it down with some gun oil and it looks MUCH better than I originally described. I think this may be a pretty good source for quality, inexpensive carry handles. YMMV
J3, DON'T SAY THAT!! I'm a newbie to this. You sent me to a quality source for a carry handle for about half of what I would have had to pay otherwise. I didn't know anything about forge marks. You did me a big favor and probably a bunch of others a big favor too! |

Does anyone know if the current production Armalite M-15 carry handles have the EA mark? I just bought one from DSG and it has the Cardinal forge instead of the EA. Wondering if it really is an Armalite... ETA: "Some do and some don't depending on the vendor we get them from. Your best bet when ordering is to mention that you want one with th EA mark on the handle." TR Answered by Armalite Sales in the Industry forum. Thanks, Josh |
