Mega Machine or SunDevil lower? I can only afford one. Thank you. |
I would not rate the sun devil lower as top notch. It's more like mediocre. I would rather get a stag or RRA before I got another sun devil. |
|
Thanks guys. Decided on Mega, but can't seem to find one. All are out of stock.hat. Wait? This is frustrating. |
|
MEGA Try here The one looks a little "pink" but it's really a nice rich Desert Tan. ![]() |

Yeah. coldwarshooters has them in stock I believe. I do not think they have that many left. They always increase the price when they have a few remaining. rainierarms.com also carries them. maybe not in stock at this moment. oh...dont forget to order a "mega" marked upper...real nice. I picked up one with M4 feed cuts. |
The wait may be a while as it usually is with Mega. Coldwar Shooters had them in stock a couple weeks ago, but they were goin fast at $135 stripped. Rainier Arms is still showing outta stock. Don't know who else stocks them, but in any case they never last long when they are in stock. Good luck. Mega's are well worth it & they are the best lowers I own by far. |
You've got me curious. Please post some pictures of the poor machining on the receiver you have. I have had a chance to examine a lot of Sun Devil lowers and have been uniformly impressed with their quality, impressed enough that I recently bought one. |
Thanks |

I think Jason(JC Weaponry) has several left, he just sent me two more(5 total). I'm building one each for my wife, my dad, and my sister, with a couple spare for the safe!! I was able to get serial numbers to match everyones birth years, except for Dad, (The person that got #21 want to sell it!!??) Bob |
You cant see it in pictures. Like I said it still works, it's just not what you should get when you pay $150 for a lower. For example the corners of the mag well are finished with a drill bit instead of being broached. Broaching give a magwell a perfect corner the way it is supposed to be. The width of the receiver is smaller than spec so the firing pins stick out of the sides. If you have a set of KNS pins there is allot of side to side play. Just allot of little things. I would expect that kind of quality from a $80 lower. I have one of the gen 1 versions, but maybe they have improved now that they are on version 472 or whatever it is. I just think that the mega is 100 times better. |

Wow! No offense but how can you tell people to stay away (SunDevil is on Rev III now) from the company after your experiences are with there original product. All first gen items no matter what industry they are in have some type of production flaws in them from being a new product. I have a 3rd gen recent as of June of this year and my machining is beautiful as is the finish. My magwell looks perfect and my trigger/hammer pins do not stick out of the sides using a Del-Ton lower parts kit. I dont doubt your 1st gen lower may have some issues but dont knock off a product that is on its 3rd revision based on your experiences with an older version. My 150 has been well spent. |
If you don't mind, can you post a picture of this special run Mega. Thanks |
Here ya go. Note the lack of the MEGA "atomic logo" (compare to pictures on page 1 of the thread), the notation of "JC WEAPONRY" model, and the special SF serial numbers. I got #76. I think you can get the stripped upper too from JCWeaponry - not positive though. Good deal at $135 shipped too. I hear he has a few left. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b35/sprscientist/L1.jpg |

When I was at the Crossroads show in Phoenix last weekend, Sun Devil had a table set up. The young guy representing SD was very professional. No bashing whatsoever of other brands. One thing he did say was the SD lowers are 6061 T6 billet and not 7075, both of which are machinable. He had pink, purple, green, maroon, titanium gray (which looked killer with black furnature and a bead blasted stainless barrel), blue and so on. He said the purple was a favorite with the ladies. Us guys on the otherhand have to have EVIL BLACK which is my favorite as well as the titanium gray. My question which has nothing to do with the above... Above the rear hand grip in the lower there was a second threaded hole for a set screw that when the set screw was screwed in pressed up against the rear, upper, Take Down Pin block (for lack of a better term) on the upper. It serves the same purpose as an Accuwedge. This set screw was solid steel. I would have used a nylon tipped set screw instead. The SD rep said it was a patended technology. This is their latest greatest revision. Opinions on the set screw idea ONLY please? No bashing allowed! BTW, their lowers appeared flawless in every way. Thanks! |

If upper and lower are quality, then there should be litle to no play between the two in the first place. Should you find a lower and upper don't have the best fit in the world, I would be very skeptical about "fixing" the problem with a tensioning set screw that is harder than to two pieces that are being tensioned. FWIW, I have seen the sun devil lowers with a green nylon tipped set screw instead of an all steel set screw. |
| Skulpin, the set screw works well, there is really only a small amount of play, but if a guy wants it gone altogether all he needs to do is tighten the screw a quarter turn and there is zero play. Mine is the green tip set screw, I have it adjusted to just allow for disassembly but minimal play. |

Another update: Yes the lower is Mega. The MegaSaber http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee107/ess45/DSC00070.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee107/ess45/DSC00069.jpg I got the CTR kit from Rainier and it's supposed to include an H buffer but the buffer they sent me looks like an standard buffer. The H buffer is supposed to have an "H" on the buffer facing the bolt. But very impressed with their fast shipping. I already Emailed them. |
| I don't recall seeing the email. Please send it again to [email protected] as David handles our shipping & returns or you can send it to me at [email protected] and I'll make sure you get a replacement ASAP. I apologize for the mistake. |
