I have never owned nor shoot an AR but i would very much like to build one. That's why i'm here. I like the look of an SBR but i don't like to pay the 200 and go through the process of acquiring one. I like the look of a 14.5" carbine with a flash hider and an A2 front sight and i understand that the FH had to be permanently pinned to make it legal. With this setup i may not be able to put a free float hand guard in the future especially if i want to put it myself (i like the Larue 7 very much). My question is, how come i don't see any AR with a 16" government contour barrel without a flash hider or muzzle break? Is the flash hider really that necessary in a 16" barrel and i understand that it can sometimes affect accuracy. How will a 16" shoot without a flash hider or muzzle break? Rock River has a 16" Varmint barrel but it looks like it heavy and it doesn't have an A2 front sight. Is there a vendor that makes a 16" government contour barrel without a front thread. First time here and thank you. |

The flash suppressor is not going to have any significant effect on your accuracy. It also has 3 main benefits: reducing muzzle flash, which will be quite apparent if you ever shoot in anything but broad, unclouded daylight; protecting the crown from damage; and looking cool |

I have a RRA entry tactical with an A2 hider, soon to be a phantom. My friend has a RRA varmint rifle with a 16" Wilson bull barrel and no hider. During the night shoot for work we broke out his rifle. It looks like someone sets off a flash grenade when it fires. Other than that it makes little difference. The weight makes a difference if you carry it alot. Joe |
