I tried Brownells, but just need a 1/4" and smaller punch to knock out the pins in the A2 front sight.  Any suggestions?

TIA

Hardware store, just buy a set of pin punches.

Get it moving with the big punch first, then drive it out with the correct size.

I haven't attempted this, but I am not looking forward to it.

I use a nail set to knock the pins loose, then follow up with a pin punch.

Craftsman Pin punch kit. Built so many AR's with these punches I've lost count. Go ahead and break one Sears will replace it for FREE!

Some of those pins (like LMT's) are a huge PITA to get out.

I was helping a friend remove his FSB for a LaRue handguard install and broke two punches (one Starrett one Craftsman). Took it over to Scott at Tactics where he proceeded to break two more punches before getting them out.

If it uses taper pins then buy the Brownells punch for taper pins and the bench block.

If they use straight pins (like LMT) then use a standard punch (maybe several) and the bench block.

i've done a few colt barrels with little issue.

the stag barrels i've heard are a real pain in the ass...

break the pin loose with the oversized punch, the rest is cake...

those FSB blocks are worth their weight in gold

I use the largest nail punch to loosen the thing.  I've even used the handle side of the punch on difficult pins.  It has a larger surface area and is less likely to slip off and scratch something.  I have yet to break one of these.

My trick to breaking loose FSB taper pins is a solid work surface, proper sized hammer and quality punch and nail set.

I prefer the nail set to initially knock loose the taper pins because the nail sets face is concave and fits the contour of the taper pins. This prevents the taper pin from deforming and the concave face also keeps the nail set from slipping off the pins while striking it with the hammer. I have yet to experience a set of pins I could not break loose.

OK, had a friend bring his Bushmaster over this weekend to install FF handguards, the FSB has roll pins instead of solid pins, just use a roll pin punch on these?

I've been ruining punches for the last couple of years on AK FSB pins.  Like someone else mentioned, to knock the pin loose, use a tapered punch to start the pin moving.  The tapered punch is less likely to bend or break so you can use more force to get the pin moving without breaking the punch.  You can then switch to a straight pin punch.  I use a nail set punch which cost about $5.00 at Ace hardware.  There are heftier ones available at other places which taper to a point a bit thicker than mine.
