I’m going for a 200-250 yard rifle thinking of going with a Vltor MUR upper and Krieger 24 inch barrel 1/9 twist. And I don’t know what lower yet

How are Krieger barrels for accuracy and longevity?
How bout a good lower was thinking Mega or POF.

Comments and 1st hand experience with these parts would be great thanks

i JUST DID MY FIRST BUILD WITH vltor UPPER AND i REALLY LIKED IT. NICE FIT, I USED A SHARK LOWER FROM JDW MFG. KIND OF NEW, BUT THEY REALLEY MATCHED WELL AND REALLY LOOK NICE TOGETHER. CHECK THEM OUT: http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=21&t=458067

1st off, welcome to the site

next, read around (esp the tacked threads) and use your "search" features--there are many topics/.opions that are out there

FWIW: Krieger makes great bbls; other options: WOA, Noveski, Laijia (?), and the more common Wilson match bbls are others to look at

choose the lower that is spec (Megas are nice for the price imo) and go w/ it; i'd put my money in the quality match bbl, trigger (match/2-stage--RRA or WOA for the price, KAC, Giessel if you have the $$$s), and ammo (handloads, Black hills, hornady, etc) that fits your particular bbl and optics if you plan on using em
a FF tube, and fitting stock and bolt might help also

also, i dont know what avg gr weight you plan on using, but if you plan on using the heavier/longer bullets, i'd look into a 1-8 or 1-7 twist

I am going to use ever shot best through my barrel I was going to try 50-60 grain bullets from companies like black hills and hornady. Quality in this gun not quantity Wolf and other cheap loads are out.

Fluting is done on the outside of barrels correct?

yes

its nice for making the bbl lighter, and usually more forward balanced; h/w, some prefer full contours for target/ranged rigs

oh, i forgot, SS/CM bbls tend to have ~ 1/2 the "life" of a Chrome lined bbl; h/w, SS/CM will generally provide the most accuracy potential (depends on quality also)
generally, the higher vol of shooting/rapid firing will decrease bbl life/increase wear

I know you can't say exactly how long it will take for the before the barrel becomes a nice place to hang a flag but about how many round will trash a stainless steel barrel as aposed to chrome lined?

this FAQ might provide some idea

basically, it will vary; h/w, CL bbls tend to last up to twice the # of rnds (up to 20K vs 10K for CM/SS), HOWEVER, it depends on how the bbl is used/abused AND to what accuracy you want and expect....some SS match bbls will begin accuracy results after a few K through em-YMMV
