I want to get a 14.5 inch barrel with a pinned phantom, but sometime in the future, i want to get a larue 7.0 Is it possible to install this without taking off the flash hider? I can't think of a way to do it without cutting stuff...Is there a way that i'm not thinking about? Thanks Tom |

Huh? There were lots of people who de-pinned muzzle brakes and replaced them with flash hiders at the end of the AWB with no problems at all. As long as you are careful when doing it, your threads will be perfectly usable. You _will_ have to replace the hider though. |
Hmm. All the depinned FH's I've seen were pinned to the threads, and the threads there were pretty well destroyed. It's been a while and I didn't see a ton, only 4 or 5, so they could have certainly been the minority. |
Well, it does all depend on how you get the pin out. The best method I remember seeing was to grind down a little until you could see the pin, then take a dremmel tool with a cut off wheel and make slots on either side of the pin (not far enough down to ruin the threads), then open the slots enough to get needle nose pliers on the pin and pull it out. You still have to be careful, but I've seen several done that way with success. |
Flash "Hiders" are not pinned on or permanently mounted - they "attach" to the barrel much like this old M1 Cabine model: Flash "Suppressor" are what this thread is about - different device altogether:  not my pic and yes this is NOT how to use a crush-washer as it's backward... mike |
Oh good lord. There's one in every crowd. Who CARES??? I have both and I've known the difference for decades. Everyone knows what we're talking about here. Just like calling magazines clips. WHO CARES? Get over it. Griping over that is no different from being a "grammar nazi". How about adding something of value to the conversation instead of whining about technicalities?

Unless I'm reading this wrong, the short answer is "No". If you have the phantom removed to install the Larue, you'll need a new one and have to get it permanently attached or you'll have a SBR. My recommendation would be to save up some money and buy a complete upper with a Larue and a 14.5" barrel with a permanently attached phantom. Less headache and money in the long run. |
I must have missed the memo then. Maybe my shop is a "rare" place because I do this every week. $40 to tear down and rebuild an upper to install or swap about anything. $25 to remove a pinned muzzle device. $20 to pin on something else. shop services |
