I want to build a 16 to 18 inch AR and I was wondering if there is any benifit to useing a very stiff upper reciever ,and if so what is the best . I haven't setteled on a barel yet and wouldn't mind a sugestion on that also . it will be expected to be MOA at 100 yards with a 4x scope and 75 to 77 grain ammo.

What do you mean by stiff upper?

i'd bet my off the shelf bushmaster would do moa at 100 with that ammo.

moa in an AR is not something that is hard to achieve.

by stiff I mean a very solid well built forged or billet ,I have heard that some company's make an extra thick forged or billet upper but cant remember where I saw it .

I hear good things about the Vltor MUR uppers but they are a bit pricey. I think a regular forged A3 or A4 upper would be just fine also.

The LaRue A3 or M4 Stealth stripped upper are the best I've ever seen.........If you want stiff this is it.

Have you decided on a barrel?

WHy don't you get the whole Vltor VIS upper? You can use any standard barrels such as CMMG, PRI.....etc.

For 18" BBLs, CMMG and PRI make good barrels.
