I just built up a pre ban Olympic/SGW lower with a Stag lefty top end.  The lower build went together without a hitch (CMT/Stag parts), stock no problems.  Big problems mounting the upper to the lower.  The lower was so out of spec that when I went to close the upper and lower together, the rear tang (takedown pin lug) was hitting the side (right) of the lower receiver.  When I put pressure on the upper and lower, I can close it.  However, in doing so, the bolt catch appears to be binding and wont hold open the bolt.  I don't know what else could be causing the bolt catch to fail.  I called Olympic today (they didn't answer any of their e-mails).  Their service department said to send it in and they'd look at it, but didn't know if they would be able to do anything.  I asked about their "lifetime warranty", and was told that receiver was built before the lifetime warranty.  How convenient.

Any ideas for a functional fix,  Or is this a lost cause?

I've got an SGW lower.  It has a 4 Digit serial number. Pre- 1990 product. It is out of spec.  I bought a Bushmaster flat top upper for it, but it did not mate up. I took it to an
AR-gunsmith. He hand fitted the upper and lower. It works fine now.

Oly Arms warranty sucks. seems they always try to find a way out of fixing their screwups. I have had an Oly Arms lower and it was nice but i have talked with several people that have had similar issues.

I had one too, I had to fit the upper to the lower and it was real picky as to which mags it would take. I ended up using it for a 9mm build with a Hahn mag block and it worked fine right up to the time it was stolen. Ben

maybe i'm just lucky?

What made you decide that the lower was the problem, and not the upper? If you could get your hands on another rifle, and try swapping uppers and lowers, you could confirm where the problem is.

Just a thought,YMMV.
