OK, so I've built a couple of AR15s, but both were built using cannibalized parts from other rigs, so I had a few complete assemblies to use. In particular I have questions about the buttstock assemblies, specifically the buffers. Some of the vendors I am looking at purchasing from offer "buffer upgrades" such as "H buffers" and other buffer types with which I am unfamiliar. I am presently building a 7.5" 223, a 10.5" 223, a 10.5" 9mm, and a 20" 223. I assume the 9mm will require a different buffer assembly, but I have no idea what. Will the 7.5" need a different buffer than the 10.5", 20", etc? Will one size fit all (mostly) or am I going to have to buy specific parts for each rig? Finally, my interest at the moment is putting the original, clean Colt-style CAR 6-pos stock on three of these rifles, but I cannot find a kit that includes a milspec buffer tube, stock, etc etc (so I can go with Magpul/Vltor/etc later on should I choose to do so). Anyone have a vendor to recommend? FNG says many thanks. |

A 9mm Buffer should work fine for all of your applications, but it is needed more on the short barrel assemblies. The longer uppers are easier on the gas system. I run a "H" Buffer in my 14.5" upper. It runs fine suppressed and un-suppressed with no extraction issued. If you want to upgrade to any other stock later, I would suggest you go with a Stag 6-Pos M4 kit. This will give you the Mil-Diameter extention tube. |
