I'm new here !! And looking to build my first AR. My Question is How is the fit and finish of the DPMS AR parts kits ? And if you call can you change parts in the kits to get a custom parts kit ? (hand guard, sights, gas block, etc.) P.S. GREAT SITE !! |

Personal experience: Out of spec bolt holdopen. Trigger and hammer bearing surfaces that were extremely rough and needed stoning for a half decent pull Terribly ugly mag release button. Right side of selector and front and rear push pins full of tool marks and gouges. Experiences posted by others: Oversized pin for the trigger guard that needed either the hole in the TG reamed larger, or rplacement of the pin. Missing pins and/or springs (most common complaint). I suggest you look at either the Bushmaster or Stag kits. A bit more expensive, but I don't see postings w/complaints about them. |

I have used three of their kits so far and only had significant problems with one. On the upside, they sent replacement parts quickly without a problem. I would buy from them again. If you want a custom parts kit, look around, you can find partial kits (a spring kit for instance) and buy the rest on a single basis if that is what you want. I am considering doing something similar as I won't need the trigger assembly or pistol grip on my next build. |
I have used dpms in two builds, other than a slightly gritty trigger pull at first ( it does improve with use ) no problems. Of course I have also used lower parts kits from M1S with good results, so I may be lucky in this regard ![]() The only lpk I ever had a problem with was from shurlek marketing. Every thing else in the kit was gtg, but I couldnt get the trigger, hammer and disconector to work like they should, replaced with parts from bushmaster and everything was fine. Oh, welcome to the board btw

Ditto. I got their lower receiver, LPK and butt stock kit. The vented butt stock screw was missing, but I had a spare in my kit. They sent a replacement pronto. Color, fit and function was fine. This was Feb., 07. |

To ad another $0.02 to the topic.... Just finished installing my 2nd LPK into a stripped receiver. First one I did was CMMG, had no issues, everything went together fine, trigger guard roll pin was a bit tight but went in ok, trigger pull not bad, about what I'd expect from a battle rifle. Second I just finished was DPMS, was $10 cheaper, and all in all, I would say it is equivalent, except that it's missing one takedown pin detent, very annoying as I there aren't any fun shows anytime soon in my area. Hopefully I can find a local shop that might have some spare parts, but the places I usually go aren't big carriers of AR stuff. Other minor differences were that the selector was maybe just a shade more black which was good, trigger pull was fine again, and trigger guard roll pin was a little tougher to get in. |
