OK, here is my situation. I was assembling my RRA receiver last night. I put in the pivot pin spring, detent and pivot pin. I guess I was putting pressure on it, so when I got it in, it slid completely in. What I mean is, it hit the first detent hole, then the pin slid to the next hole. So cool, I got it in without losing the detent. Boy was I wrong. The detent somehow got stuck in the pivot pin hole. I mean really stuck. It wouldn't budge at all and I couldn't push the pin out. I had to use a punch and a pretty good size hammer to get it to move, and what happened was, the pivot pin actually broke.

I was wondering if this ever happened to anyone else. I didn't use grease, but I did use oil. I guess I will try and round off the end of the next detent before I put it in.

I'd check the detent hole on the pivot pin, it may just be to deep.

Similar thing happened to me.  Except, when I pounded out the pivot pin, instead of breaking, the detent got dragged halfway out between the receiver and the pivot pin! The detent was almost bent 90 degrees.  Luckily it did not damage the receiver.

I was thinking that could be a possibility. I don't really know how deep it too deep though. I guess I can try and compare it to my other lower's pin. Maybe I should have ordered another pivot pin also, instead of only ordering the detent. Thanks for the advice.

Actually, thats what happened to me also, except the pin broke in half, instead of bending. I had to keep pounding it until I could get the wedged pin out. Man, I was panicking for a bit.

Why didn't you just put a straightened paper clip through the hole in the takedown pin to press down the detent?

Because the pin went all the way in. Like how it would be as if an upper was in there.

GotchaHaha,

So flesheatingvirus, what did you do in your situation? Was the problem the detent or the pivot pin?
