Ok I am building my 1st AR-15 soon and have decided on a RRA lower. But my biggest problem is the upper!! Can anyone tell me who make's the barrel on the J&T kits and the Del-ton kits? Also are the upper part ie. bolt, charging handle, gas tube, etc. made by the kit company or by a mainstream company like RRA or Stag.

So what I want to do is two builds: One will be a gov. profile M-4 A3 upper and the other one will be a 20" HBAR A3 for distance. I would like some info on the uppers. I would like quality parts but I like to build stuff. Any advice on componets that have a good fit and finish. Quality part (Shaw, wilson combat) and dont short stroke. Thank you.

J&T uses Wilson Barrels but they also sell some Colt barrels based on availablility.

I just had a J&T Marksman upper built.  It uses a 20" Wilson Premium air guaged Stainless HBAR barrel with 1:8 twist attached to an A-3 upper.  I had YHM lightweight handguards attached instead of the more expensive Daniel Defense Rails.  It has been pretty accurate so far.  It definitely liked Black Hills 68 grain loads (Best 100yd group was .48 inches).  I was recently breaking clay pigeons on a berm at 200 yards with Federal Power-Shock 55 gr PSPs with no problem.  The upper was assembled shipped and recieved 5 days after I ordered it. (Ordered thursday, at my door the following tuesday).

I made it choke once by failing to seat the magazine fully, other than that 100% after 200 rounds.  I've only had it 2 weeks, but it hasn't failed on its own.

I have a thread with pictures and range report further down here in the Build section.

i've used many j&t kits, all have been top notch. they use e.r.shaw barrels and "government contract parts" i have had 0 issues with any products from them, every rifle has work flawlessly from round #1. i here del-ton is great people to deal with. rock river makes awesome lowers and that should be an excellent start for you, shop around call both j&t and del-ton and see who gives you the best service and is most helpfull then go with that company. either way you will have a graet start

Thank you guys for the info. Sounds like both companies use quality parts. It will be a toss up between the two companies for sure. I will keep you guys up to date on my two builds. Thank you Trei

Del-Ton uses Wilson barrels, marked DTI, unless you change the options when ordering to DPMS.
