I want to build an AR and am looking for who makes high quality barrels - top of the line stuff. Also, does any one know if there's a gas block available with a bayonet lug?

"Top of the line" is what regards??  Accuracy, durability, handling qualities, good compromise  on all of the above, etc?  What is your intended usage for this barrel/rifle?

I guess I'm looking for all the above - a good all around barrel. Accuracy, longevity, then handling.

Do you want a target-varmint bull barrel?

Do you want a general use barrel?  Perhaps H-bar type?

There are many levels of "accurate" and "good".

Describe what you want to build, and the intended usage.

Krieger Barrels top of the line. But really depends what you want to do with it.

A 16" barrel that will hold 1/2" groups at 100yds (please don't ask what kind of ammo). Guess I'll use it for a variety of things - CQB - varmit - ? Would a H-bar be better than say a lighter one, or what are the advantages of the H-bar? Do you have names of quality barrel mfg'rs - I've heard names - Wilson, Shiller sp?
Or are you trying to tell me that one makes a quality varmit barrel and yet someone else makes a quality CQB and even yet another makes a quality long range barrel?
I'm getting more confused! I could give you an accurate, quality handgun mfg.
Thanks Daubs - I'm getting an education on rifle barrels!

It's like asking "Who makes the best tires?" when the answer varies depending on whether the tires will be for your Honda Accord, your offroad 4x4, a Formula I car, or a Top Fuel dragster.

A barrel that will achieve 1/2 moa will likely be too heavy for defensive work.  For 1/2 moa you are looking at a 1" bull barrel, free float forearm.

An HBAR contour barrel will be a good compromise.  It will do 1 moa with good ammo.

I have never seen a plain gas block with bayo lug.

Other than pissing off liberals (which is a good thing!) a bayonet lug is really useless these days.  If they are close enough to jab with a bayonet, you should have shot them already.  Bayonets were traditionally used as a pike because it took so long to reload a black powder muzzle loader.  Or when they ran out of ammo.  Or for herding around prisoners.

Ya, I'd like the bayo lug, just for the first comment! Looks like I may be leaning towards the Hbar or two rifles - but I'm still investigating. The responses have given me some direction -Thanks guys!  (Oh, on quality tires, Michelin or Perrelli)

typically gas blocks are set screwed on... so even if it did have a bayonet lug i'd be wary of sticking anything with it...

you could chop down a standard FSB... most people that use low pro gas blocks cover them with longer railed handguards so mounting a bayonet isn't an option anyway...

look under ar variants. WOA 6.8 accuracy.  A  H Bar profile fluted or not is all you need to get 1/2' groups. A 16- 18" is also good for CQB.  Manufactures wilson, shillen etc will typically not build a barrel for you. White Oak, Accuracy Speaks, AR barrels will sell you a finished barrel that you can build from. I've built several in the past 15 years using Accuracy Speaks and now White Oak.  Production barrels usually will not shoot better than 1" groups. also if you dont handload dont expect 1/2" groups. And I mean handload well for accuracy not just pumping them out like you do pistol shells. Check out Precision Shooting reloading guide.

Good info thanks! I will check before I start building. Have some experience reloading - and know rifle is a different animal than pistol. Looks like I've started another hobby!
