Are these parts any good?

This is either going to be ignored by everyone who reads it or it will turn into a 20 page shit-storm.
Either way, everyone will think this...

Well i just ordered a car15A3 chrome lined upper with absoutly no probs. I have mostly herd good things. Out of all the bad only 1-2 stories could be backed up with truth.

you know they are all the same... some people hate things for no reason, some for just. model 1 sales is the classic it is what it is. cheap parts that work, will they out perform high dollar parts...hell no. if there is one thing i have learned in life (and its not how to spell) you get what you pay for, be it a gun a truck a house a steak you get the idea. m1s has pretty good stuff for not alot of dough...

The "search" feature.  Is it any good?

I realised my failure to use the 'search' function after the first response.  I didnt know that this topic had been so common.  Just starting into this 'build it yourself' stuff, so thanks for all the info.   My eventual search was helpful as well.

I'm just kidding. I have three Model 1 Sales rifles, I love them to death. (I just ordered my fisrt non-M1S uppers last week, a Bushmaster upper from day 15 of their sale and a Del-Ton upper) IMO, Model 1 is the best bag for your buck. Two thumbs way up!

I found that Del Ton has some "specials" that are much better priced than M1S.  J&T tends to be the same price, or cheaper than M1S.

M1S "used" to be the cheapest, but no more.

They lack consistently in their Quality Control and Customer Service departments.

When one of their reps actually came to post here 2-3 years ago their response to questioning on this issue was basically:
"You're lucky we sell to you pissant civilians, we sell enough to .gov and LE Agencies that we don't really have to worry about satisfying your expectations."
(Yeah, and Vulcan sells to the Special Forces. )

You want to encourage this attitude with your $$$ go right ahead.

There are other more business savy suppliers who will: actually answer your questions, send your shipping and tracking info, tell you where they get their parts, etc...

BTW:  Yes, I had a bad experience with them years ago and their CS sucks just as much in person as on the net.

If you're looking for a blaster they are fine. If you want to scope it and shoot 1" groups or less they are not. Out of 20+ production ARs i've had in the last 15 years only 1 has shot 1" groups or less. believe it or not it is a Colt CAR. H-bar.
Production rifle =1" + groups
production ammo =1" + groups
production trigger = 1"+ groups

All 3 you'll be lucky to get 1 1/2" groups.
As always these are just my opinions

Still in the thinking about building phase. If I can muster the confidence and funds to build I want to build an AR pistol, so accuracy is not a huge concern.

All right.  For the incredibly dense, here it is:

10" M1S pistol kit   $495
10" J&T pistol kit    $485

J&T has a better rep, and advertises on this site.  If you really, really just have to donate an additional $10 to M1S, be my guest.

Have a nice day!

Model 1's barrels are defective. Mine broke in two pieces while I was using it for a cheater bar on my crescent wrench...cheap chinese steel : )

In all seriousness, I have several friends who have used their uppers (bought locally from the Yankee salesman who peddles them at the Tulsa Gun Show). They seem to love them.
Most of the retail parts are coming from a few factories.
I am in the market for a complete kit , but will go with someone who advertises here for obvious reasons. I like to support a good thing... (NRA Comes to mind,,, and I hope you are all members : )

I ordered two M1S Varmint Uppers, 20" SS Heavy 1:8 Bbls, with A2 Compensators, and they were punching one hole groups at 100, and able to hit a 1000yd 17x10" target. No reliability issues whatsoever. For 610 altogether, including bolt carrier assy, charging handle, upper, Compensator threading, and Harris 6-9" notched swivel bipod, I'm very pleased.

I bought a rifle kit from them last year.  Can't complain.  Not the best quality, but good for what I paid.  They took about two weeks to ship.  I'd probably poke around and put the parts together if I had it to do over again, but I was pleased at the time.
