I bought a new flat top upper (A4) from Denny's guns (I'm very happy with it and the service). I want to swap it for my A2. Will I have any issues with head spacing? Also, if I decide to try to build up the A4, will I have to worry about buying a barrel head spaced to a particular bolt, or can I just get a barrel, barrel assembly, and carrier group? Thanks.

You don't have to worry about head space issue with an AR, the bolt locks into the barrel extension which is pressed onto the barrel and headspaced on the barrel.  As long as the bolt closes you should be good to go.

I'm sure someone else will chime in on this issue, like one of the barrel guys.

Receivers have no effect on headspace.
You should still be checking the headspace once a year though, so go ahead and buy the gauge anyways...

AR-15 bolt locks directly into the AR-15 barrel extension.
The receiver has no influence on headspace so don't give me that funny looking icon...
I might know a little bit about which I speak.

The bolt is in red.
The extension is in green.
The barrel is in blue.
The cartridge case is in white.
