My current build will be my fifth, but it will be the first for my oldest son.  We spent some time looking at pics and going through catalogs.  He decided on an A2 carbine with the M4 profile bbl.  We did some searching, and decided on a DPMS stripped lower, and a carbine kit from Del-Ton.  The lowers I seen were going for about $110 plus shipping.  I have used the DPMS lowers on 3 of my 5 builds with satisfaction.  The lower was going to cost $125 delivered, and the carbine kit was $495. $620 for a build didn't seem bad to me, even if I cheaped out and opted for the non-chrome lined bbl. For giggles, I searched on G'broker the night before I was going to order the lower and kit.  I found a dealer in Iowa selling new Superior Arms lowers for $90 delivered...too good a deal to pass up, especially with lowers getting a little hard to find right now.  I found a complete Bushmaster upper with a chrome lined M4 profile 16" bbl on there.  I won the bid, and with shipping it came to $380. (THANKS JOE!!)  It had 50 rounds through it from the previous owner, and looks absolutely brand new.  Oh, he put a McFarland gas ring and a Wolf extractor spring in it as well.  I bought a carbine stock from the Tic00 0n here with a wrench for $39 delivered.  I ordered an RRA lpk from Pete for $63 delivered.  Got 3 CProducts 30 round mags coming for $37.  So, in the end, I am getting a better quality, chrome lined rifle, with 3 mags, for $1 less than the original plan.  I'm pretty happy with that.  I had some credit on my Dicks Rewards account, so last night we picked up 4 boxes of ammo, just for him to break the rifle in with.  The lower is on its way...the Post Office lost the first money order I sent, then right after I sent the second one, Iowa got hit with a big ice storm and the dealer lost power for a few days and the Post Office was closed there.  When it comes in, I'll post some pics of the new guy helping the old man with the build.  I think he already has a touch of BRD.

Sounds like a great Father / Son project!  Im sure he will cherish it for years to come.  It is kind of fun when you get your children involved.  I remember whn my daughter was 12 and I got her shooting a .22 rifle at a range.  Her mom and I have been divorced for 4 years, it took me 3 years to even get to see my daughter.  I almost broke into tears a couple of months ago when she was over here and asked when we could go shooting again.
