I have been on a quest for a chrome lined 7.62x39 AR barrel and have come up empty.  CMMG and others have said they would think about it if/when reliable mags are available.  My question is can you take an AK barrel and install an AR barrel extension on it?  I don't have an AK barrel to look at so I can't tell if it is possible.  My gut tells me that if it was possible, it would have already been done.  I just wanted to make sure though.

OK, did a little digging and a Romy barrel at the chamber end is either 22mm or 23mm which is either .866" or .905" AND a standard barrel extension needs an OD of .8125" with a thread pitch of 16.  So it looks like this could work.  I am in the process of getting a barrel extension and an AK barrel.  The only problem I am running into is headspacing.  How do you headspace an AR15 barrel?  I am assuming I will need some 7.62x39 headspace gauges, but after that what is the proper process for headspacing when installing the barrel extension?

IIRC, the extention is installed, then the chamber is reamed

I am new to this so bear with me.  The barrel has already been chambered so why would you have to do it again?  Also, maybe you would keep screwing on the extension until it headspaces correctly?
