A friend of mine came up with several GI A2 barrels stripped, without the barrel extensions.
He offered them to me at a good price but I haven't figured out how to fix the extensions that won't ling up with the gas system.  Is there anyone out there that could install the extensions for a reasonable price?

The easy solution is to just re-drill the gas port and have a new FSB mounted on them.
Should not be more than about $100 a barrel plus the extensions.

I hope you got a REAL GOOD DEAL on them.

The problem with extension swaps, as you have just found, is that there is no standard "timing" to barrels and threads.
When a new barrel is made, they simply torque on an extension.
THE EXTENSION DETERMINES WHERE THE TOP OF THE BARREL IS LOCATED.
No two extensions are the same as these are NOT an item that ever needs to be exchanged.
The extension is PART OF THE WHOLE BARREL ASSEMBLY.

So, there are two options depending on if the barrel is chrome lined or not.

First option was mentioned above and is the ONLY way to do it if it's a chrome lined barrel.
Torque on a new extension.
Verify headspace is within spec.
Drill a new gas port on the new "top" of the barrel.
Install a new FSB.

Second option if the barrel is NOT chrome lined:
Shorten the rear of the barrel by the necessary amount to get the replacement extension to index to the OLD top.
Then the gas port and front sight can stay where they are.
Now re-chamber the barrel to obtain proper headspace.
Depending on how far you have to shorten the barrel, you may also have to modify the barrel nut or handguards to get them to fit again.

This is NOT fun work.
I hope you got a REAL GOOD DEAL...

Hope your price was less than scrap price.  There's a reason the extensions were removed, I'd guess.

Translation: Pass on the barrels.
