OK, I have a new RRA fully assembled lower with M4 stock that I need to top off. I think I've narrowed it down to one of CMMG's options...they're pricey but I'm assuming they have a good quality reputation.

I'm looking at three uppers in particular... the first is their 16" Middy A3, the second is the same Middy with a medium contour barrel, and lastly is the M10C 16" Dissipator-style with either CAR or Mid gas tube.

I have several Q's thought that I'd like answered:

1. Which is better, mid or CAR length gas system? More specifically, which will function reliably with the stock RRA buffer in the M4 stock?

2. What is the difference in weight/ balance between their regular and medium contour barrels?

3. Will the Dissy model look silly with the M4 stock? And more importantly, will the rifle balance well? The latter is especially important since some type of quad rail is in the future, along with a VFG and a light, and those will add weight to the front.

4. Am I being stupid to spend all this money on CMMG? Could I get the same quality product from another retailer like DT or J&T? I'm trying to shy away from HBAR uppers, and it seems like Sabre and CMMG are the only two players in gov't profile barrels. Is their someone I'm missing?

Thanks so much in advance!

Oh and P.S. This will probably end up as my patrol rifle once my dept. develops a policy; hence my desire to stay with top tier brands and factory assembled assemblies.

I have a 16" dissy upper from CMMG. I like it a lot and would buy another one if I needed it.

1) Mine has mid-length gas. Extraction isn't as violent as the carbine gas system. The guys at CMMG recommended the mid-length as I shoot a lot of 55gr XM193. Rifle length gas is an option also. I haven't had any failures to function.

2) Med-con is a little heavier. I don't have any problems with it.

3) I have the light, VFG, and a Troy MRF rail. My rifle balances well for me. I'm planning on going with a CTR stock on this rifle at some point in the future.

4) Quality from CMMG is worth the money, in my opinion. BSW

People say that the Mid is a better gas system, I have not noticed a difference between the two.  My preference for the mid is based on the greater sight advantage.

I have a medcon CMMG m10 and love it.  One thing to note about the balance with a m4 type stock is it will be a little front heay especially with quad rails (i have MI free floats on mine)  However it does help reduce muzzle clime in rappid fire.

It's actually more green than it looks in the pic.

It's left over from the night shoot. I wanted to secure the flashlight switch and the MIAD core with some extra tape handy to secure any other things that needed it. I just haven't pulled off the tape yet. That's all. BSW

Thanks y'all for the pic and answers to my questions.

I thought about it all day and I'm leaning right now toward the 16" mid length with the gov't profile barrel. I think it's the right combination for me.

Now I gotta go find a rear sight!

I love my 14.5in CMMG M-4gery.  For rear sights Troy can't be beat.  I like my Arms quite a bit.

I ordered my CMMG 14.5" govt. profile middy last week. It sounded like the perfect setup to me.
I should have it Monday, can't wait
