In 1994 i bought a Colt Match Target Lightweight for the hefty sum of $723.00.  Its the one with the 16" 1:7 thin Brl, A2 stock, A2 "4" marked upper with feed ramps.

Now that the AWB has sunsetted i had ADCO thread the Brl and install an A2 FS. I removed the A2 stock and installed a CMT collapsible stock and finally today i removed the A2 upper and installed a CMT M4 upper.

With a Trijicon TA-47 in a LaRue compact ACOG mount, an ARMS #40L and a Surefire M500A it's finally complete.

Going to go sight in in tomorrow with 75Gn 5.56mm TAP.

Very nice, reminds me of when I was buying a Yamaha Virago a few years back, something about fine machinery to get the blood flowing.

California's features based ban did not take effect until 2000. All of my AR's & my M1A were grandfathered in.

my buddy just gave me an upper i think is similar....colt upper with the skinny barrel from FN. its nice but he did advise me to shoot 55grn only cuz after that 62 and higher..the bullet will travel sideways///////lose its trajectory.  Not sure exactly mine is just sitting there....waiting for a lower and  such...but that is what i was told

Hope this helps !

ADCO & AR15Barrels.com are both good places for Brl threading.

Rate of twist and chamber specs determines which ammo you can use, not brl thickness. your FN brl may be a 1:12.

post a pic of the markings of said barrel

sounds like you got a 1:12 barrel whereas the OP's barrel is a 1:7, which would shoot anything (62gr, 68gr, 75gr, 77gr) without a hitch

Very nice.

Looks similar to what I am going to build if the Bushmaster 1/7 lightweight run goes through.

Your carbine turned out nice.

I used to own the same model I bought new in 1991 except mine still had a FS and it was my main weapon during the '92 LA riots when I was still living there at that time.

Mine had no problems at all, sold it back in '01 but wish I had kept it, if I had kept it I would have done the same thing as you did to yours.

When changing an A2 upper to a flat top check the height of your front sight, you might have to get a taller front sight post because the flat tops are about .040" taller than the old A2 rear sight.

During your sighting in and it groups several inches higher than before, you need a taller front sight.

Dont see any markings on the barrel where do i look ?  And yes I am new to the ar-building........all i can say is that he told me that it was colt upper with FN barrel with a 1/12 twist so i just took his word..he's got 4 AR's and didnt want the skinny barrel so he just gave it to me....where can i look to double check the specs ?  On the front sight there ius a F R1 2  with the R! circled and smaller????????
