I know that forged lowers are stronger than cast, but I have never heard of anyone having trouble with a cast lower reciever. I bring this up because a local shop has  some DPMS cast lowers. I'm thinking of buying one to build my next AR from. If you have had bad experiences with cast, let's hear it.
Thanks

I had an older DPMS cast lower that had misaligned rear pushpin holes.  I had to dremel the hell out of a rear takedown pin, and still had to use a rubber mallet to get it in all the way.

FWIW, the folks at Lauer told me that the lower would hold their finish as well as a normal forged lower.

I thought that DPMS discontinued cast lowers a couple years ago?

I have a DPMS cast lower that is over 12 years old and is on its third barrel - did have to dremel a bit but no problems with function or breakage. I also not that it doesnt hold KG gunkote as well

It is not something to be terribly concerned with,I have a EA pre ban (Ct you know)that is cast. How much are you saving on a new build however?seems like you might take it in the kiester on resale jut to save a couple of bucks up front

I've read the debates for years, but have never actually heard of first-hand problems due to casting.

Sorry if this is hi-jacking but....How do you tell if a lower is cast?

Cast will typically have a grainy appearance.  The mold separation line will be thin where visible (usually the front of the mag well and inside the trigger guard) and unfinished.  Lettering is usually raised rather than indented.  Generally they won't stamp roll marks on a casting so the company logo and such will be part of the mold, hence the raise lettering.

How much are the cast lowers they are selling?

You can get a forged lower from $80 on up.

IMHO not worth it.

Too many good forged options for great prices.
