Hello again everyone, I've been reading and researching away on my first build, and have hit a stumbling block question: Is there a difference in accuracy with the type of barrel used? I am wanting to get a 20 inch barrel, whith a good flash suppressor. I see a lot of heavier bull barrels, but seldom see them with a threaded end to attach a flash suppressor to. this build is going to be for my fiance, and about all she will be doing is going at paper targets up to about 300 meters. Should I consider other barrel types? Thanks all. |

Your barrel selection is fine. A 20" stainless heavy barrel (not bull barrel) is the standard for DCM high-power shooting across the country. The general rule is a non chrome-lined barrel for accuracy. Most folks leave the flash hider off and use a plain target crown for maximum accuracy. However you can most certainly be accurate with a flash hider. I've read the purpose of the target crown is to allow propellent gas to escape evenly around the bullet as it leaves the barrel. Uneven gas escape can tilt the bullet at this very critical time of flight. That said, the goal would be the same with a flash hider. This means the typical A2 style may not be the best choice as it doesn't allow an even distribution of gas. An A1 style, with slots all the way around, or the Vortex style flash hider may be better choices for a target barrel. You may also consider an 18" SPR barrel. The military desiged this profile to optimize accuracy, velocity, and weight with their precision rifles. I use one of these from White Oak Armament and it is fantastically accurate, even with an A2 flash hider. it's 1/2 MOA with Black Hills 77 grain SMKs. You're fiance may appreciate a lighter rifle to lug around. WOA SPR barrel
