I am installing a new CTR and carbine buffer tube on my lower and have run into a little problem.  When I install my buffer tube I have the option of either having the it so far in that it hinders the movement of the buffer retainer, or one rotation out where it appears to barely hold the buffer retainer in place.  Is either of these right?  Do I need to shorten the buffer tube somehow?

Hasn't happened to me but I think I would install, mark, and file as needed.  Should be an easy fix.

barely holding the retainer in place is right. make sure the castle nut is tight (i use a hammer & punch) then stake it.
