Wanting to no ban my colt ar15 sporter hbar. Was thinking of just replacing the barrel with a govt contour complete with all the "evil" features. Asking for the tools as a Christmas gift means I would only be out the cost of a barrel. Is this the best way to go? Ive never removed the barrel before but the instructions dont sound to bad. Biggest concern seems to be a canted front sight. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome. Thanks.

If you have any mechanical ability at all, it's pretty easy.

You should use a torque wrench, get a good barrel wrench, not the cheapie, and I like a action block myself

It would be hard to "cant" a front sight the barrel will have a pin that fits in the upper.

Check for cant before installing the barrel nut if its visable I would return the barrel to the maker.

Action block, tourque wrench and barrel nut wrench and your good to go. maybe some grease too

And make sure your vise is good a solid

Before action blocks it was pretty common.  On some uppers there is a little play in the slot, and using barrel vise blocks to install a barrel puts all the pressure of barrel nut torque on the indexing pin to receiver surface.
