You can't go wrong with Del-ton's kits, based on what I've read on here. I know I ordered a lower from them a while back and have asked many questions since, and they are really nice/helpful. I also bought a complete upper that was built by them used in the EE, and it is very nice. If you want an exact color/finish match, you should try to get the same manufacturer's upper receiver and lower receiver. My DPMS rifle upper that I got complete on Gunbroker matches my DPMS lowers perfectly. However, my Del-ton-built Wilson 16" M4 upper half with T-marks on the receiver is more gray (less black) than my DPMS lowers and even more light than my super-dark DoubleStar lower. As far as reliability, meh, any forged lower's about the same. Some (DPMS/DoubleStar/others) I have seen teflon coat the receivers after anodizing them, and some (Stag/Olympic/others) just anodize and don't teflon coat. Just figure out what you want before you build it. I have both carbines and a rifle. The recoil is minimal with each, but CAR gas systems make you get off-target a little after each shot from the recoil, whereas my rifle is as smooth as silk. Mid-length gas system is supposed to be a fair compromise between allowing shorter barrels with proper function and reducing recoil below CAR levels. |
