Looks good !  I'm in the middle of my build and can't wait to finish. Who made the upper and what are the specs for it ? I like the look and size and am leaning towards a similar goal right now.

issue #1
so i load up an empty mag and cock the bolt all the way back but the bolt catch dosent hold the bolt open???   i have to manualy pull the bolt catch out inorder for the bolt to stay locked open..   is this normal??  ( btw, the mag has a magpul follower)

Good job, now clean up those tools.  You can't let your vise-grips get all rusty like that.

eta: Did you put the spring in for the bolt catch?  Is your bolt going back far enough for the bolt catch to be able to ride up and catch the bolt?

Yes i put the spring in..  the spring actually works against the bolt catch, so that wouldnt affect it.

Bolt hold open does not work like that, to get the bolt to hold open when not done firing a mag you have to manually use the bolt catch

Your right there...but it sounds like he is inserting an empty mag and the bolt wont automatically stay back.

Can you try a different mag?

Also lube up the bolt catch assembly where you pressed the  pin thru.  Sometimes the holes on new lowers have anodizing inside of them and it can make for a tightened area until it loosens up

I generally run an appropriate sized drill bit into the bolt catch, front t/d pin, rear t/d pin and the hole for the safety detent and spring to clean them out a bit before building

Other than that, it all looks good

Reading is fundamental!

Check another mag and tell me if that works

it locks open.. but only some times.. the springs have to be broken in.. i'm going to try to lube them later, i just need to figure out what kind of lube to buy..

right now i'm figuring out my sights.. i'm thinking scoped for now (3-9x40). Ive been doing small bore .22 sharpshooting for a long time thus it's nice not to hive iron sights.  need to get a quadrail than figure out where i can find a full length top rail to mesh the handgaurd and flat top together.  FYI i'm going to get a 2pc had gaurd, i'd love a free float. but from where i'v read i'd have to grind off the muzzle break and weld/pin a new one. to much work for a toy

Buy some good mags.

The springs should NOT have to "break in"

The bold catch should work 100% right out of the box. Anything less is not acceptable.

Get some mags that you KNOW are reliable and try them.

Are you sure you didn't get some springs mixed up?

Love the classic CAR stock.

Trivia time:  Those are aluminum correct???  And they need to be used with a mil-spec receiver extension?  Most likely a 4 position?  I've got questions, arfcommers have answers.

I had a lower parts kit that had a bolt catch with an out of spec pin hole that was so tight that it wouldn't allow the catch to work with just the mags spring pressure.  I had to get a new bolt catch and install it.   Now everything works fine.  Now I try pins for fit in everything before it goes in the receiver.

I got real good mags with Magpul internals.  it's the bolt catch spring that need to be broken in.  initialy in the build, i had a hard time putting the spring in the hole becuase of the anodization.   it's getting better everytime a press the bolt catch
