I am trying to remove the stock handguard from my colt 6724 but it won't budge. I don't want to damage anything by using too much force but if more force is what it takes then that's what I will give it. I have removed the gas block and the gas tube so as my understanding goes it should unscrew. HELP ME!!!!!

It is a stock free floated guard. Solid aluminum with no heat vents or anything.

I'm not sure what the specific design of the handguard is but it is either a 1 piece or a 2 piece.  Look for a very small seam between the two parts about an inch and a half from the rear of the tube.

If it's a one-piece then the tube and hte barrel nut are all one piece and it was tightened to somewhere between 35 and 80 ft-lbs of torque.  If it's a 2-piece then then you can remove the front section first and then use a normal barrel wrench on the nut.
If it's a two piece then it probably has loctite on teh threads holding the pieces together.

Either way, you're going to need to put it in your vise with a receiver block and use a strap wrench to get it off.  You may need to apply heat, especially if there's loctite on the threads.

If it is anything similar to my V-match tube, it also acts as the barrel nut.  I had to put the whole upper in the oven on LOW for about a half hour.  Then I used a strap wrench and it popped right off.
