I built a AR15 Sporter II back in the 70's. I would like to replace the A2 type
upper with a newer flattop style and upgrade the old trigger assy. I plan on using a
scope as my old eyes don't work like they used to. I guess my question is what will
fit this lower. I would like to use the floating set up also. This is great site and I
am going to join the team , sending payment in the am.
Thank you

I hope this is in the right spot.

Any upper should work as long as it's legal in your state. Are pre-ban features allowed in MD?

Look here on the EE (Equipment Exchange) or on gunbroker for a new or used upper. Someone here may have just what you need.

Make sure you buy a complete upper with the bolt/carrier group.

You'll need to get a front pin adaptor for most newer uppers (that have the smaller normal pin) , since your Sporter should have the large front takedown pin. Bushmaster sells the adaptors pin.

I don't think pre-ban is an issue here, Buying new 30 round mags are, lucky for me I
have had some for over 25 years.
