I have a barrel that was org. a 20" , it has been cut down to dissapator size. I dont know who makes the barrel, but rumor is , its a colt. No way to tell. But it doesnt have a FSB. So, will any ole FSB fit? Ive heard that non colt FSBs may not fit correctly. Any truth to this? Thanks |

FSBs are slipped on to the barrel, then the taper pin holes are drilled at that time, so FSBs rarely fit another barrel, even when it's from the same manufacturer. Even if your barrel is Colt and you have a Colt FSB (one that is not original to that barrel), it will most likely not fit properly or align with the taper pin holes. Trying to use a new FSB on an old barrel will lilkely result in a canted FSB. Best bet is to use a flip-up from sight base that uses either set screws or a clamp. Trying to reuse those taper pin holes is going to be far more trouble than its worth. |
Okay, hmmm. ill have to figure something out, this may limit my options on what upper I wanna use. |
It doesn't limit your options for the upper so much as it limits who you can have install the new FSB. There are smiths who can install it for you, but be prepared to pay a good bit more than it would cost to drill the holes and install a new FSB on a virgin barrel. |
Yeah I understand this. This build up is a low buck build up. Free barrel, etc. I went with the YHM Flipup GasBlock. I figure this will be the easier solution. I was hoping for a PRI one like ive got on my camo AR, but big diff. between 170 and 70bux. lol... Anyways, with a front flipup, it almost makes sense to go with a flattop and rear flip up. I think it would look better, IMO. OFf to find a cheap flattop. lol. |
