I have been looking for a pencil barrel to build my first ar. just about have to settle for a bushmaster. Well a guy i know has one for sale, except its the whole upper without the carrier group. It is a A1 upper, car lenth, Pencil barrel(superlight model) seems to be in nice shape, says less than a hundred rounds through the upper... Whats a good price?

how is $175-$200   ?

Bushmasters (used) complete in like new condition without BCG/CH seem to run about $350-400 in the EE.  Maybe you can get one for $300, but it's rare.  Bushmasters are like Colt... their name == groupies who will pay more.  Superlight (pencil CAR) uppers are just as expensive but harder to find than M4-style uppers.

Retail: $425 new w/no BCG/CH and an A2 upper.

I'd say anything less than $300 is great.

Just found out that he put the assembly together, he bought the A1 upper and a superlight barrel assembly and put it together...Is actually about 90% condition(scratches and what not) Bore looks good, fairly clean inside the receiver...Is it worth $175???

Is there any worries I should be thinking about...Never built one yet so dont know what to look for...

$175 would be a steal.

That barrel assy is $220, the receiver runs around $100.  Anything under $250 is a good deal.
