I'm trying to remove the ACE stock from a Bushmaster modular carbine and I cannot for the life of me get it off.  Nor have I been able to locate any information on how to take it off.

I thought the stock is basically slid over the top of the buffer tube and is secured with a long screw going through the butt pad into the buffer tube--I took out the screw and tried to slide the stock off but it won't budge.  Infact, I removed every screw on the stock and it still won't budge.  I've got the lower on piece of wood that is cut to fit into the magwell, then the wood is secured in a vise.  Its very secure but I'm afraid to wrench on the stock too hard.

I apologize for posting this... I have searched this forum and the net and haven't found anything.  I check the bushmaster site, the ACE site (www.aceltdusa.com), and did a google search and still can't find any kind of directions to remove it.

Any help you folks could offer would be very appreciated.

Best,
Dave

is the foam buffer tube cover thats giving you a hard time?  its a pia to get off.  i usually end up rolling it up a little and try to pull it back over itself.  if you have a straw for a wd40 can that may help, thats how i get them on.

do you have a standard ARFX stock or one of the SOCOM stocks?

If its a Standard ARFX stock the one big screw going through the Buttpad into the buffer tube is the only thing that is supposed to be holding it on.

Have you tried giving it a good whack from left to right might hlep loosen it up.

also is the foam overtube on the buffer tube? if so it'll make removing the stock extremely difficult.

Ace made a few changes over the years.  Mine is from when they first started making them and it has a set screw on each side that clamp the stock to the rear of the receiver extension.  I don't think the stocks that Bushmaster used had the set screws, but you still might want to check.

Most likely, it is simply tight on the receiver.  There is a hole in the rear of the receiver with a matching 'bump' on the stock so that it stays in place and doesn't rotate around the buffer tube.  On the Ace stocks this is a tight fit and it is probably stuck.  A little penetrating oil should take care of it.  You can also try some heat on the receiver but since the receiver and stock are both aluminum and are in direct contact they are going to heat and expand together.

The foam tube provides some resistance too.  Make sure you can slide it down a little from the front of the stock.

Thanks for the replies guys.  Tomorrow I'll try peeling the foam back and I'll use some wd40 on it too.  It doesn't have any set screws on it--there's a roll pin on the bottom tube but I don't think it's part of the problem.

I gave it a few whacks with a deadblow hammer and it moved backwards a smidge.  I guess my major concern was using too much force and damaging the receiver or buffer tube.
