I've been looking into building building an AR for a while now but I still have a few questions. First of all if I add a stripped lower to this kit will I have everything I need to complete my rifle? http://www.dpmsinc.com/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=KTA2-LL-16 If I add a $150 stripped lower to this kit will I have a complete AR 15 for $650 plus shipping or is there something I am missing? Also, has anyone had any experience with DPMS equipment? It seems to be a good company, but my AR15 experience is limited to Colt and Bushmaster. I know these are pretty simple questions but I'm just getting in to this and need all the help I can get. This is a great site with lots of information, thanks in advance for any help. |

I recommend AGAINST this approach: 1) If you buy the complete kit, with lower, DPMS will add Federal excise tax (11%). 2) The kit is completely stripped, which means you will need about another$100 worth of tools to assemble it, plus the scope for things going wrong is greater. 3) This kit looks very basic - no chrome lining, heavy barrel instead of gov profile etc. Are you sure this is the configuration you want ? IMHO, DPMS are about average when it comes to quality anyway. You would save significant money, and have an easier life, by buying your kit from one of the vendors who sell part-assembled kits, like Model 1 Sales. Lower receivers can be had for less too, say $100 (check the EE). I like Ameetec because they are local and I don't have to pay an FFL to receive the lower. You can also get Stag, Mega and other lowers around this price point. If you absolutely MUST buy DPMS, do not buy throught them direct - their prices are a bit steep. |

Thanks for all the help. I should have been a little more clear in the original post. Since this is my first build I was just wanting to know if a kit like that plus a stripped lower is all that I would need in order to have a complete weapon. Most of the adds I've seen are not too descriptive or informative. I have since learned alot more from this site. I will most likely buy from either Model1sales or Ameetec. The M4 lower assembly from Ameetec for $200 seems to be a really good deal. Anyone have any experience with these. Thanks again. |
