| Just a quick question. I don't own an AR yet, but have wanted one for years, so I've decided to build my own. I think I'm going to get a Model 1 kit and purchase a Bushy lower. With the Model 1 kit am I going to get mediocre parts and have an unrlieable gun, or should I be ok? I don't want to spend this kind of money and have a lot of problems with it. |

You might as well just piggyback on this thread. It's pretty much the same discussion. ETA: Oops. I see you've already found the thread I linked. Nevermind. |

I dunno I always take the I know a guy who knows two guys and one of them knows this guy that has a cousin that had this that or the other problem with brand X stories with a grain of salt. I've owned a few Model 1 uppers and they were fine, no complaints... I've owned a couple of complete DPMS rifles built from kits and they were fine too... I prefer DPMS lowers to RRA and have never had a problem with one.. At some point you just have to take a chance and do what you think is right. There is always going to be someone that has a Kevion Bacon chain of people that could document why this that or the other thing is crap. If you want to be absolutely certain that you have no issues, I'd say buy a Bushmaster. Any issue you have with it I am certain they will take care of immediately. For that matter you could go get a Smith and Wesson AR and I know they'll take care of any issues... At the end of the day there is no big mystery to AR parts. They have barrels, those barrels are made by Shaw, Wilson, etc... They have uppers that have blanks made by a handful of people and the finished receivers are finished by a handful of people. The lowers are more or less the same concept. Yes some parts are better than others, but honestly I've never seen a situation where Stag, RRA, Bushmaster, and yes DPMS didn't take care of people that asked nicely. Same goes for LMT, CMT, and for the most part everyone else... Honestly it's like the age old, Ruger pistol issue... There's plenty of people that will tell you how inferior a Ruger P89 or P90 or whatever is to a Sig or an HK etc... My P90DC has 3000+ rounds through it, is as tight and accurate as I could ever ask a .45 ACP to be. It has never once had a failure to feed, extract, eject, or anything else. Then again I like my Walther P99 .40 better than the USP Compact too... so maybe it's just me. |

Stag arms is definitely good stuff. the general consensus is they're a good product, good quality, but not quite so expensive. some dislike their logo though, but places like www.globaltactical.com take an unstamped stag lower, and put their own logo on, and its a good deal at $105. So a stag kit, and a stag lower reciever should do it. |
