I was looking at pick this up... anyone have any feedback on them? Like are the 223 or 5.56? will it last or should I just go with the Mod 1 kit? THX http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?p=WX2&i=90206 |

Well first off.... True mil.-spec Vulcan® Is almost enough to make one laugh... At $404 Club Price in a 16" M-4 type config, assuming it comes with the bcg, which I actually didn't see specified it just says complete upper... It's not a bad price.. I'd still go with the Model 1 'cause you know they will stand behind their stuff and it's all top notch. If it doesn't include the bcg then no way. cause the Model 1 complete upper is only $380 without bcg and that's in a true 14.5" with perm flash for 16" total. Which btw if you don't care about the M-4 profile. The Model 1 16" Lightweight barrel CAR is an excellent upper and it's as low as $385 with bcg. For that matter you can get the entire kit with stock, lower parts kit, upper, bcg, everything but the stripped lower for $435. model1sales.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=KCE16L&storeid=1&image=car16prelw.gif $99 for a stripped Stag and you've got a great AR for cheap... All in all I'd stay away from the Vulcan upper unless you're OK with being on your own. Vulcan doesn't warrant or support their gear. |

THX mod 1 it is. What is the dif between their 16" CAR and the EM-4 CAR? http://www.model1sales.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=KCEM46&storeid=1&image=carm416pre.gif http://www.model1sales.com/catalog-list.cfm?Category=01&Subcat=16-inch%20C%2EA%2ER%2E&storeid=1 And how big of an advantage is the chrome lined chamber & bore ? Keeping in mind that i am ballin on a budget. Tryin to be range ready (with ammo) under $650 |
Looks like only the cuts for the gernade launcher. Depends on whether you want to mount your gernade launcher or not on an M4orgery. Does that particular look appeal to you or not. From what I see, the M4 cut is going to cost you $5. Is it worth it? ![]() Simplistically, the chrome lined chamber & bore will aid in keeping your rifle clean. There has been significant digital ink slung on this board about chrome vs. nonchromed. I take chrome since that is what I had in the .mil. My 2¢, wganz ¶ |
The 16" CAR comes in eitehr HBAR or a Lightweight Barrel... The EM-4 CAR is an M-4 Gov't profile type barrel, as stated (grenade launcher cuts) So the 16" CAR either comes as a heavy barrel 16" in length, a lightweight barrel 16" in length.... (I have the lightweight and like it quite a bit.) The EM-4 is the M-4 profile which you can get in 16" plus a flash hider OR you can get the EM-4 in a 14.5" with a permanently attached Phantom for overall 16" length. I've got one of those also, but my barrel is a Bushmaster in that configuration, however every Model 1 Shaw barrel I have has been top notch... Can't go wrong either way. What are you going to use it for? The 14.5/Phantom M-4 is going to be the absolute shortest AR you can build without going SBR and paying the tax and sending all the papers in. And as was mentioned the Chrome vs. Non-Chrome is a huge debate... I like regular Chrome-Moly... But have nothing against chromed. If I was using corrosive ammo it would be chrome all the way.. I'm not and don't have any trouble getting my rifle clean without the chrome. |
| Thx for all the info. i am going to use it for an all around rifle, plinking, target shooting, SHTF. It will be my only rifle so it will serve a very dynamic role. I humped an M16 for quite sometime so I am quite familiar with the platform and believe its modularity will lend itself well to my needs/wants. |
