I am installing my lower parts kit, and when I got to the safety selector, I got problems. I put the detent in the hole on the bottom of the receiver, and now the safety will not move at all. What should I do?

Did you clean your lower with Gunscrubber before assembly?

Did you ensure that all ports/passages/holes were clean, oil free and were debured before assembly?

Did you ensure that the detent pin was clean, oil free and free of burs?

Did you use the correct spring?

When you installed the pistol grip did you ensure that the spring was not kinked or bent when you installed it?

If you answered NO to any of these questions then go back and correct them.

Before you reassemble it again take a jewlers file and remove a SMALL amount of material from the side of the pin that's going to contact the safety selector.

Sometimes the safety detent spring is a little bit too long.
You might have to remove a couple few winds from the spring.

When you put the detent in, you did put the pointed end in first rather than the flat base, right?  If not, flip it around and then try it.

Yes, I put the pointed edge in first. I have the gun fully assembled now (with the safety stuck on FIRE) and have another problem.

When I cock the gun and try to dry fire it, nothing happens. I have to push the trigger forward a tiny bit with my finger before I can release the hammer. I have no idea what is causing this.

Sounds like your trigger spring is in backwards and is not resetting the trigger.

I already checked the trigger spring and it is gravy. I'm going to oil it  a little more. Also, does anyone know how to get the selector detent out of the hole?

Wiggle the selector back and forth to loosen if possible.

Also, try smacking the bottom of the reciever on a block of wood and let inertia be your friend.

Hit it on the threaded angle part and not the trigger guard tabe.

saftey assembly goes in before hammer and disconector. also, smooth the detent's sharp point, maybe that might help. I did a build once and the safety was gritty and hard as shit, so I smoothed mine out. Also, polish your trigger pin with medium steel wool so it will be smooth.

Are you sure you have a safety detent spring and not a takedown detent spring in there?

Sometimes springs are too long, or the hole in the pistol grip is too shallow.  OR when you put on the grip you pinched the spring, binding the spring and detent.

When you put on the grip it must be slid on NOT in the direction of the grip screw, but be slid straight up in a direction perpendicular to the boreline.  Watch and make sure you don't crimp the spring.  Then, holding the grip in place, tighten the screw.

Assembly hint... PRIOR to assembly of the grip, tape the screw to your screwdriver or allen wrench.

My first build was like this and I just needed to really pull the selector the first time, after that it smoothed out.

Charge the weapon , Can you put it on safe then?

With the hammer cocked try the safety.

I had to make my own detent out of a nail head until M1S ships me a new one. Works OK for the time being.
