I know you get what you pay for, but I was just curious as to if anyone has had one of these lowers by essential arms. They are cheap at $77. Anybody have any input on the quality and compatibility of these lowers. Here is the link to their website. http://www.essentialarms.com/forged%20lower%20receiver.htm Thanks for any help.

I've heard nothing bad (and a lot good) about the EA lowers, and plan to order 2 of them this week.
BTW - for those who really believe that "you get what you pay for",  P.T. Barnum had a good quotable: "There's a sucker born every minute".

I had one on a AR several years ago. Did just what it should do. No problems. I'd buy them again.

I had one years ago, which I traded off, and bought three more last year.  I have a LEO friend that has one, and over the years have seen a lot of them.  Not once have I seen any functioning problems related to Essential lowers.

The worst thing is that many don't like the old gray finish.  At one time EA offered matching gray upper receivers.  They offer them with an optional black finish now.

I just helped a bunch of my friends do a group build of "M4's" on EA and Mega recievers.

I ordered the EA recievers with the optional "Tuff coat" finish so they'd match the Model-1 kits we were using and they went together better than the Mega's did. I've built alot of guns on Mega's and like them fine but the essential arms seemed to need less cleaning-up of holes to get pins into.

I think this guy was pretty happy with his new Essential Arms lower.

Looks like "Bob" on those TV commercials for, uh, male performance enhancement medication.

Are any of the Essentail receivers finished to Mil Spec?
Thank You

That looks alot like the 15 I bought from them.  I thought they were still a bit "Grey" (Almost SP1 looking) but they ended-up matching great with the Model-1 kits we used and M1 kits are pretty dark.

They went together pretty nice too.

I have no experience with the new forged lowers, but the old  cast ones were fine. A lot of those were used to make machineguns back in the time of the dinosaurs. I'd buy an EA forged lower in a minute.

I bought one of the steel ones from the first batch out when they started back selling lowers. Anyone know if they ever ran a second batch of the steel lowers?

Yes.  "Receivers are mil. spec. machined from forging and anodized according to mil. spec. '8625'."

Anyone know if they are willing to replace an old cast receiver with a new forged one with the same serial number?

My first AR was built on an EA lower.

Call and ask, he's a nice guy. If he will let me know, that could come in handy.

Indeed, I ended up keeping my 2 Prebans just because of trips to see the family in NY, or heaven forbid I return there to work.

I will call him when I get back stateside.  I didnt see an email address listed on the webpage or I would have already tried to establish coms.

I'm a little confused by their website.  It says that they are available in OD, black, grey toughcoat and black toughcoat.  Does this mean that the OD and the black are anodized?  Is the toughcoat applied over the anodizing?

They do look like nice lowers at even nicer price.

I have a cast EA lower attached to a M1S 20" varmint upper and it has operated flawlessly so far, 2000+ rounds. I am waiting on a forged upper/lower from them now to complete my next build.
