Well i am gonna build me an ar...my trouble is that i dont know how i should build it...I am going to get a RRA stripped lower here soon..My question is should i get the lower and buy a model 1 sales complete kit and build it?? of should i buy like a stag LPK and stock build my lower and then buy a complete upper...The kit would save about 50-60 bucks...What should i do?? How has everyone's model 1 sales kit worked for them??? thanks trevor |

For my first AR I did the...build the lower with known good parts and buy the complete upper option. I am very happy with the results and I know exactly what is inside. I don't have to wonder about "generic" parts. Kits are not a bad way to go but you have to be careful and use reputable dealers. I used Del-Ton on the second build and have generally been very happy with their products. They seem to use a blend of DPMS, CMT (stag), and Wilson as their parts suppliers. Be sure you are comparing apples to apples. For example: Chrome Lining vs. Unlined, M4 stock vs CAR stock, M4 handguards vs. carbine handguards. I think you'll find, as I did, that there is not much cost difference between a kit and buying the upper, LPK and Stock. Kits will include the cheaper alternatives like the CAR stock, handguards and unlined barrels but will add chrome lining, M4 stocks and handguards as options that quickly eats up the cost savings. Stag already includes the upgrades as standard equipment. |

You can get a great deal on an LMT upper from Quantico if you buy during their Fourth of July sale. $388 (not including the bolt carrier group) gets you a complete, chrome lined 1-in-7 M4 type upper. Or if you want to go the kit route, I've found J&T's to be top notch. I haven't tried Model 1, though. |
