I just got a PRI FF carbine handguard and tried installing it tonight.  After getting the handguard installed, I couldn't get my gas block installed properly because it was hitting the front of the handguard.  I use a gas block with a rail on top and the rail is hitting the handguard.  It looks like the barrel nut is too fat and doesn't allow me to tighten the handguard far enough to the rear so it hangs over the gas block.  I've tightened the sleeve and handguard as much as I can but there are still threads showing.  I know if I can tighten it down more so the threads don't show, it will clear the gas block area.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any recommendations?

Measure twice, cut once.

Parts compatibility is always an issue, sounds like your finding that out the hard way.

What ever happened to mil-spec?  Here are some pictures to better explain the problem.  Hopefully someone can give me pointers.

The gas block is suppose to sit further down where the step is.

If the handguard can be screwed in a little more so none of the theads show, it should work.  Unfortunately, the barrel nut is too fat and won't let this happen.

WHY BLAME THE PROBLEM ON THE HANDGUARD? THE ISSUE COULD POSSIBLY BE THE BARREL.

MEASURE THE OVERALL LENGTH OF THE HANDGUARD TUBE. THEN MEASURE THE DISTANCE FROM THE GAS PORT TO THE END OF THE BARREL EXTENSION. WE'LL FIGURE OUT WHAT'S SCREWED UP.

Wes, thanks for offering your help.

At first I did think the barrel was screwed up but I tried it on another barrel I had sitting around and had the same results.  I doubt if both barrels are bad and I really didn't feel like taking another rifle apart to try it out on a 3rd barrel.

The overall length of the handguard is 6-15/16"

The dimension of the gas port to the end of the barrel extension is 8-1/8" (on both barrels I've tried)

The thickness of the barrel nut is 7/8"

Once again, thanks Wes.
