My AR has the removable carry handle.
I'm looking to purchase a railed gas block from YHM.  They say you secure it to the barrel with set screws OR it can be drilled to use the pins on the original front sight gas block.
Has any one done this?  Can the set screws be dependable for a secure fit on the barrel?
I also looked at the YHM gas block with flip up sight.

My goal is to mount my scope closer to the barrel.  It's elevated now because of the front sight....I want to eliminate the riser/elevated rail.

I know how to remove and reinstall the front sight on my AR.  ....I don't feel comfortable with the "set screw" connection to the barrel.  It seems the pins that currently hold the front sight on the barrel insure for a proper and straight line up on the barrel.
Am I too paranoid on this?  Is it really as simple as tightening the set screws? Any other products/recommendations?
Any sugestions would be appreciated.

Couple thoughts.  The YHM unit simply clamps around your barrel.  It does not use the taper pins.  I have one and it's rock solid so far.

If you put your scope all the way down on your flat top you will probably not be able to get a cheekweld to even look through it.  You will need it up around the height of your front sight anyway.  Most scopes can kinda "see through" your front sight anyway though, due to their large objective lenses.

The flip up sight is a great addition though.

Does it easily line up with the gas port on the barrel or do you have to make markings and measurements?  Do you also have the rear flip up sight?

I put a 4 rail gas block on in place of my standard front sight base. The only thing I did was put some blue loctite thread locker on the 3 set screws on the bottom of the gas block.  Thus far it's shot perfect.  I used a level on my railed upper receiver and matched the front sight base with the level to the back rail.  It's really not too hard, the gas hole drilled in the railed gas block is quite a bit bigger than the gas port in the barrel so it would have to be way off to not work correctly.

BTW; If you want YHM parts try Eaglefirearms.net their prices are a bit better than direct from YHM.

same here.  as long as you're paying attention to how squarely it sits, you won't have any problems lining it up with the gas port.  Blue locktite on the set-screws, never red & you're good to go.  I use high rings mounted on the flat top upper & sight picture is perfect.

Thanks People
I've seen the YMH 4 rail.  I'm going for it.
