Any one have any experence with the 11.5 xm177 style kits wiht the welded flash hiders to bring it up to 16.1? Im working on my first build and I cant decide between the XM style kit, or an M4 style kit. Any suggestions?

Are the kits you looking at the ones with A2 uppers?

I want to do a similar build but I just can't get past the A2 upper. I only want it if it has an A1 upper. I've pretty much decided that this project will have to wait until I have the skills and tools to do a complete build so I can piece it together the way I want it.

I know  didn't really help you any.....I was just sharing my thoughts.

I've got a BM A3 upper with a 11.5" barrel and XM177 FH on it.  It's pretty accurate, looks cool, but is loud.  Limited to what you can do with it if the FH is permanently attached.

On the other hand, with the M4 set-up, you have more options.  With me, I just got both set-ups .

I have a Model 1 A2 upper on a Bushmaster lower.  It is loud, but I really like it.

This is the rifle

And this a target I shot two weeks ago. This is 40 rounds of Wolf 55 grain JHP at 25 yards. My support elbow was resting on a bench.

Not too bad. And I agree that an A1 Upper would look much better. But, I refuse to take a great shooting gun apart.

+1 on the A1 upper, especially if it were a slabside.  Nostalgic looks really cool, but it does not fit into what I build my rifles & carbines for.
